PAL to NTSC Transfers to DVD or Hard Drive

There are three video formats used world-wide and unfortunately not all VCR equipment is compatible with the various types of video formats available. While the United States generally uses the NTSC format, other countries may use either SECAM or PAL, leaving many old and historic family memories unseen and lost in translation.

PAL (or Phase Alteration by Line) is used in much of Western Europe, Asia and the Pacific and Southern Africa. PAL uses a higher resolution than NTSC, which causes flickering when viewed on the United States televisions. The color stability and greater resolution is noticeable in the PAL over the NTSC.

NTSC (or National Television System Committee) was introduced in the United States in the 1940s as a protocol for television viewing and is used primarily throughout the USA, Japan and Canada. The lower resolution, faster frame rate reduces flickering. The first video films displayed were in 1939 at the opening of the New York World’s Fair.

Feldman's Digital Transfer Services can transfer American formatted films to PAL or SECAM, or from SECAM and PAL to NTSC. Now your home movies can be enjoyed overseas or bring your family history to life on the American DVD players, televisions or personal computers.

Your PAL movies can also be stored on a personal hard drive for movie editing, adding transitions, removing unwanted footage, and even adding sound or music.
