DV’s or Digital Video tapes are popular world-wide. They come in many sizes, enclosed in a plastic cassette. The smallest are MiniDV and the S-size, used by many professional and amateur users.

The M-size cassettes were general used in Panasonic equipment, and were also referred to as DVCPRO tapes. With an adaptor attachment, the Panasonic video recorders could also play the smaller DV or DVCAM recordings.

Larger, L-size tapes are used in standard DV Tape Recorders and were used in the camcorders distributed by Sony and Panasonic, and were often called DVCAM cassettes.

The much larger XL-size cassette was developed for Panasonic camcorders, also called DVCPRO XL. However, there are only two types of recorders that can utilize these tapes.

Some of the labels you will see on available DV cassettes read:

      • DVCAM
      • DVCPRO
      • DVCPRO25
      • DVCPRO50
      • DVCPRO HD
      • DVCPRO HD-LP
